Canyoneering in Alegria, Cebu

Canyoneering in Cebu is one adventure you shouldn't miss if you visit the Queen City of the South. Canyoneering in Cebu  is not only for the adventurous heart but is actually for everyone, except little kids perhaps.  Looking at the photos of Canyoneering in Cebu  might be intimidating. One might think that you need to have big muscles to do Canyoneering in Cebu .  But i can attest that at an age of mid-thirty something, fat to obese body type, i did it all.  I climbed, I swam, I jumped.  All you need is just a little dose of faith.

Kanla-ob Canyoneering in Cebu
Canyoneering or Canyoning is travelling through canyons or gorges or deep ravines made out by the erosion of a river current and may need a variety of outdoor activities such as walking, trekking, climbing, jumping, rappelling and swimming.  Canyoneering in Cebu is not just an adventure.  It is more than just fun and enjoyment with friends and colleagues.  Canyoneering in Cebu  is in itself a journey with oneself.  It is time to dig in your inner self and find that belief that you can do anything that you set your heart and mind into.  It is a magical moment to be awed by God's great creation.  It is time for humanity to manifest itself, as one learns to trust other people and look out for one another's safety.  For urban dwellers like me, it is a refreshing time away from traffic and the hustle and stress of city life. Canyoneering in Cebu is truly a testament that all great things could only be achieved through sacrifice, hardwork and a ton of laughter.  But if you really have some serious illness then you might as well seek clearance from your physician before taking the plunge.

Kanla-ob Canyoneering in Cebu
Canyoneering in Cebu is at Barangay Compostela, Alegria which is located almost at the Southwestern tip of Cebu.  We began our journey at 3 in the morning.  We met at Ayala Cebu and departs at 3:30 a.m and travels through Talisay City, Minglanilla, Naga, Carcar, Barili, Moalboal, Badian then finally Alegria. On the way, we stop at Macdonalds drive thru to order some breakfast and just ate in the van. Travel time is approximately 3 hours so some actually slept throughout the ride.  We decided to travel this early so that we would be first in line and not be caught up with other travelers as it was a weekend.  The guide told us that weekends are usually booked in full, so better come early or book during weekdays.

From the highway, you will see a sign which says this way to Kanla-ob Canyoneering, then you will turn left.  From there, people from the Department of Tourism will stop your vehicle and make a quick check then will advise you if it is safe or not to proceed with the canyoneering, depending on the weather.  We started at 7 in the morning and we ended at past 11 am.  Kanla-ob Canyoneering in Cebu will take more or less 3 hours. You can bring your own food for lunch or you can ask the guide to cook native chicken tinola style or lechon style at a very affordable price, so that when you come back after the grueling adventure, you will have some tasty lunch to fest on. You can also ask them to cook rice.  They have plates and utensils you can use.   Bring bottled water for your consumption but i realized that all throughout the Kanla-ob Canyoneering, i never got thirsty, must have drank river water as i made those jumps.

The Van of Sir Windel will bring you near the registration area just in front of the house of the guide, so there is no need to ride a motorcycle or habal-habal.  It is also safe to leave some of your things like cellphones and shades inside the van because the family members of the guide will watch over the van.  If you want to book a package complete with air conditioned van, 2 to 3 guides, equipment like life vest and head gear contact Sir Windel at 09258584111.  Canyoneering in Cebu cost as much as P1,100 ALL IN, including the fee for the guides and if you want a sidetrip to Cambais Falls which is also in Alegria just add P250 for a total cost of P1,350. Kanla-ob Canyoneering in Cebu is about 1.5 kms.

Before starting the Kanla-ob Canyoneering, You must register first.  The guide will lead you to the Registration Area.  The Package of Sir Windel already includes the registration fee. Then we traverse downhill leading to the river.  The first jump and the 2nd to the last jump are the highest jumps.  It looks so scary from the top but this is where you take a leap of faith.  Trusting God, trusting yourself, trusting the guides. After making the first jump, all other jumps becomes easy.

I brought with me my DSLR camera and i managed to take some few shots before it got wet and died.  I placed it inside a dry bag which i loosely tied, then when we came upon a clear area of the Kanla-ob river i checked it to take some few shots only to find it dead already. Well i never have regrets, it was my fault.  My Kanla-ob Canyoneering in Cebu was the best experience in my life thus far.  It was priceless.  So better leave your high end cameras behind and bring in a GoPro instead.  And if you want to bring your wallets or other stuffs, put it in a securely tied drybag, which is folded at least 3 or 4 times.  The guides will also bring it for you,  So you will have an utmost and clutter-free canyoneering experience.

Enjoy and respect nature as you go along the Kanla-ob Canyoneering.  You'll be in a for some surprise at the  near end of the journey.  I won't tell what it is, you have to find it out for yourself.  Kanla-ob Canyoneering in Cebu is not really that tiresome as you will get hydrated all the time, the taxing part is when you trek up the mountain going back to where you started or where your vehicle is.  That i think is the most brutal part.  Don't be in a hurry, stop and breathe and enjoy the nature that surrounds you.  The best part coming early is that you get it done after lunch and will be back in the city by late afternoon.  Or if you opt to go to Cambais Falls then you can start early.  I'll cover Cambais Falls in another post.
