The International Justice Mission (IJM) hosted this photo exhibit on human trafficking to make people aware that human trafficking is offensive and damaging to one's dignity specially to children who are mostly the victims of this immoral action. The International Justice Mission through this photo exhibit on human trafficking also aims to encourage people to do their share in helping out end human trafficking. Human Trafficking often result to other unlawful actions such as cybersex, sexual abuse, child labor and sale of internal organs.
The International Justice Mission is a human rights agency which secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. In the International Justice Mission Website, presented is their Four-fold Purpose namely: Victim Relief, Perpetrator Accountability, Victim Aftercare and Structural Transformation. The International Justice Mission has lawyers and investigators, also aftercare professionals who will worked with the local officials so that immediate rescue of the victim is ensured and that they are well taken cared of after their ordeal and likewise to press for the prosecution of their perpetrators and abusers. At the same time promoting the efficient functioning of the local public justice systems.
The United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef)-Philippines funded this exhibit in human trafficking. The reason perhaps of holding this exhibit on human trafficking in a school setting rather than in malls is that student mobilization is being eyed as one of the ways to prevent being victimized by human traffickers and to rescue minors from human trafficking. Student who are advocates of the campaign against human trafficking from various universities and colleges in Cebu are initiating movements to inform the community specially the youth of the dangers of human trafficking.
Cebuanos and Bisdaks who has the desire to help in this advocacy against human trafficking may visit the International Justice Mission website and learn more about them. You might be shocked to learn some statistics about Cebu in relation to human trafficking. They have this mission called "Project Lantern" and it's really such an eye opener for a Cebuano like me. If you are a student, simply inquire from your student organizations and offer any help you can. You can learn more about human trafficking by attending this photo exhibit. I'm sure you have already heard of stories or news about Filipinos, specially children being victims of human trafficking, specially here in Cebu. Anyone may help in this fight against human trafficking by simply informing your neighbors or friends to make them aware on the pitfalls and dangers of human trafficking, they might just thank you and you might have saved someone else's future and life. This is all our fight Cebuanos and Bisdaks.
