Diabetes Week runs from July 23 to 30, 2011 with the theme "Agbayay sa Kahimsug, Healthy Lifestyle 2011". Agbayay from the Visayan word agbay meaning to place or lean one's arm on the shoulder of another. Kahimsug means in good health. So, the theme of this years Diabetes Week literally means (shoulder to shoulder) Leaning on each other towards good health and healthy living. We need each others' support to attain good health. So Sweet Alert Inc in partnership with the Cebu Holdings Inc and the Ayala Center Cebu will bring out a series of activities for the Diabetes Week celebration which will kick off with the opening on July 23 at 3pm at the Ayala Center Cebu.
There will be some pharmaceutical companies which will participate in the Diabetes Week celebration and will hold blood sugar testing. Some tenants of the Ayala Center Cebu will also showcase their diabetes-friendly products. Nestle Philippines will conduct a cooking demo to promote healthy eating for people with diabetes and to prevent the onset of diabetes. There will also be a Wing Chun and Zumba demonstration to promote exercises to help prevent diabetes. There will also be a program hosted by Jude Bacalso to inform the people on the latest healthy practices to diabetes prevention. Dr. Marian Kyamco Denopol, head of the Diabetes Department of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center will also be there to help answer questions about diabetes.
Sweet Alert Inc. aims to educate schoolchildren in Cebu about diabetes prevention. Surely this will be some interesting week not only for people with diabetes but for everyone else who is not living a healthy lifestyle who may be susceptible to diabetes. So let us be there and learn, enjoy and help promote a healthy lifestyle among Cebuanos.
