Cebuanos and Bisdaks, here's another reason to stand tall and proud, as Cebu City is declared as the ASEAN - Association of Southeast Asian Nations City of Culture. The title being ASEAN's City of Culture is bestowed upon Cebu City in recognition of its creative industries which has gained worldwide prominence. The designation of Cebu City as ASEAN's City of Culture enhances its image not only as a tourist spot but also as a center for arts, design and culture in Southeast Asia.
Cebu City actually shares the honor of being an ASEAN City of Culture with the City of Manila but only Cebu made a big event out of this honor. So various activities are being lined up to celebrate this momentous occasion for the Cebuanos.
Six ambassadors of the member-countries of ASEAN will be in Cebu City today for the official installation of Cebu City as the ASEAN City of Culture. It will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel.
"View CEBU" exhibit will also be staged at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu today, July 15, 2011 until July 25, 2011. The exhibit will feature creative works in fashion, decorative lighting, furniture, home accessories and jewelry made by Cebuanos.
A cultural presentation entitled "Kasadya sa Sugbo" will also be held at the SM north covered parking lot. It will showcase Cebuano songs and cultural dances.
A dinner for the dignitaries will be hosted by the Cebu City Government at the Rizal Museum and Library.
On July 16, 2011, Saturday, A marker will be installed commemorating the distinction of Cebu City as the first City of Culture of the ASEAN at the ASEAN Frienship Park inside the D' Family Park at Talamban, Cebu.
It truly is noteworthy what the Cebu City Government has done to highlight this event 'coz it makes us Cebuanos proud of what we have. I'm sure lots of activities are being lined up to promote Cebu City as the center of arts and culture in the Southeast Asia.
Suporta ta bai!
