MOALBOAL,CEBU: A Weekend Getaway

When I was younger, I used to call this place “mowlbowl” as I saw it on the buses ‘coz I didn’t know then how it was pronounced.  But then I learned that it is pronounced as “moh-ahl-bu-ahl”.

The first time i heard of the place, i was enchanted by stories from people who have been there.   So I and my friends planned a weekend getaway to Moalboal - a municipality south of Cebu City.

We traveled for almost 3 hours by bus from the South Bus Terminal to Moalboal.  Then we were dropped off at the Moalboal Public Market and from there we took a tricycle  and traveled for another 3 km or so until we reached what the locals called "Bas Daku" or Big Sand, because of the big and long stretch of fine white sand in that area.

Another area is called " Bas Diyot" or Little Sand because from the word itself, there is little sand in the area and this is where divers frequent most. Moalboal is known as the Diving Paradise in Cebu for its underwater gem bejeweled with marine sanctuaries, colorful corals, various schools of fish and amazing marine flora and fauna.

But if diving is not your type then you can laze around the fine white sands of Moalboal

Play volleyball or ride a small boat and hop to another island - Pescador Island or the nearby province of Negros.

Or just roll over under your tents and doze off...

Or watch the beautiful sunsets of Moalboal...

There are lots of resorts in Moalboal but for backpackers and adventurers on a budget, there are places you can choose for less than P1,000 or P500 pesos.

There is so much you can do in Moalboal with so little time before going back to urban life. But one does not really have to do anything at Moalboal coz the seas will captivate you and it will be just enough to complete your getaway.

Thanks for your comment. yeah you should go there. better get there on weekdays if you want peace and quiet as weekends are now a bit crowded. But if you're staying in some private resorts then that shouldn't be a problem. For sure you'll enjoy Moalboal.
